The History of the Christian Home of God Church
The year 1990 brought many changes to the Portland area. There was a dramatic increase in immigration from Russia. Families were given the freedom to fly wherever they wanted to escape persecution and injustice. Starved for a new beginning, we rushed to places like the United States of America and Canada to practice our religious beliefs in peace and safety.
After a long and tiring journey, the first of many hundreds of immigrants landed in Portland, Oregon. We formed a tight knit circle of about 30 people. With the motivation to freely gather together for sermons and hymns, but not enough money to buy a church, our families began to rent space from The Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Life was peaceful and quiet and everyone was happy with the arrangement that they had until the year of 1998. With more immigrants arriving, people getting married and having children, the church had grown enormously since the year 1990, when the first families had arrived.
1998 brought major changes as well as new beginnings. We decided that it was time to have our own sanctuary where we could gather whenever we wanted and call it our very own church made for God. Since there were more people than there was back in 1990, we thought that we would be able to pull through with the finances and costs of buying a new church. Overcoming hardships of where and how to get all of this money, since most of the members had come to the U.S. with little or next to nothing, we contributed whatever one could offer and bought the church which is now called the Christian Home of God.
In five short years, in the year of 2003, we had finished paying for this church and it had become ours. We were overjoyed! We had our own place where we could worship our God in peace and harmony!
As of today, our church, the Christian Home of God, has over 500 members who belong to our church. Also, counting children and all the others who regularly attend our church the total exceeds 1,300 people. May God be praised! We thank God for bringing such an amount of individuals together to praise him freely.
Let we not forget the history of our parents and grandfathers, the hardships that they went through to bring us here, and their wonderful wisdom and determination to provide a better place for us in which to live in and praise God.
